Heard a good love song lately? :)

This morning I heard this on the radio in may car:

Zitat:
So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'd wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go ...

.....

And what songs come to YOUR mind? :)

I always loved this old traditionel song:

Alas my love, you do me wrong,
to cast me off discourteously:
And I have loved you so long
Delighting in your companie.
Greensleeves was all my joy,
Greensleeves was my delight:
Greensleeves was my heart of gold,
And who but Ladie Greensleeves.

That is a fine song indeed! :knuddel

May I go on - towards the ending: :)

Zitat:
Well! I will pray to God on high,
That thou my constancy mayst see,
And that, yet once before I die,
Thou wilt vouchsafe to love me!

Greensleeves, now farewell! Adieu!
God I pray to prosper thee!
For I am still thy lover true;
Come once again and love me!

Tiamat

Wings Of Heaven

I'll be your master and I'll be your slave
Until the day that you will dance avidly on my grave
Seems like a lifetime we've been living this lie
But I can't help keep lying when you undress before my eyes

The wings of heaven are descending
The touch of her naked skin's amending
The skies will collide
Only for a little while
And it will take us trough the night

Thank you my angel like belly dancing concubine
Like Cleopatra you're sleeping safe in a royal shrine
Thank you for the blood and tears and for the table dance
Wholeheartedly I thank you dear for our short romance

mh, weiss nicht so richtig, ob man es als Lovesong definieren kann ... vielleicht ist es auch nur physical attraction. Aber ich mag den Song inkl. Text.

Ja, es gibt alle möglichen Theorien zu diesem Lied:

Zitat:
It is widely thought that Lady Green Sleeves was a promiscuous young woman and perhaps a prostitute.[1] At the time, the word "green" had sexual connotations, most notably in the phrase "a green gown", a reference to the way that grass stains might be seen on a lady's dress if she had made love outside.[2]

Hi everyone,

that`s interesting (green stains and all the connotations)! But couldn`t the name as well be regarded mostly as a hint/a memory towards whatever he experienced together with her outside (for that`s the point of view I would expect from a lover first).

Regards,
o.m. (old maple  )

Well, I'd also prefer a somewhat more romantic interpretation of the nickname "Greensleeves. :)

Btw:

Did you know that you can call Greeensleeves here:

In fields where nothing grew but weeds,
I found a flower at my feet,
bending there in my direction.
I wrapped a hand around its stem
and pulled until the roots gave in,
finding there what I've been missing.
And I know....

So I tell myself, I tell myself, it's wrong.
There's a point we pass from which we can't return.
I felt the cold rain of the coming storm...

All because of you,
I haven't slept in so long.
When I do I dream
of drowning in the ocean;
longing for the shore
where I can lay my head down.
I'll follow your voice;
all you have to do is
shout it out!

Inside my hands these petals browned;
dried up falling to the ground,
but it was already too late now.
I pushed my fingers through the earth,
returned this flower to the dirt;
so it could live, I walked away now.
But I know...

Not a day goes by when I don't feel this burn.
There's a point we pass from which we can't return.
I felt the cold rain of the coming storm...

All because of you,
I haven't slept in so long.
When I do I dream
of drowning in the ocean;
longing for the shore
where I can lay my head down.
I'll follow your voice;
all you have to do is
shout it out!

All because of you.
All because of you.

All because of you,
I haven't slept in so long.
When I do I dream
of drowning in the ocean;
longing for the shore
where I can lay my head down.
Inside these arms of yours.

All because of you
I believe in angels.
Not the kind with wings,
no, not the kind with halos;
the kind that bring you home
when home becomes a strange place.
I'll follow your voice;
all you have to do is
shout it out!

Wonderful song, especially when Loreena McKennitt sings it. She has such a beautiful voice.

Another love song she sings

The English Ladye And The Knight :

It was an English ladye bright,
(The sun shines fair on Carlisle wall,)
And she would marry a Scottish knight,
For Love will still be lord of all.

Blithely they saw the rising sun
When he shone fair on Carlisle wall;
But they were sad ere day was done,
Though Love was still the lord of all.

Her sire gave brooch and jewel fine,
Where the sun shines fair on Carlisle wall;
Her brother gave but a flask of wine,
For ire that Love was lord of all.

For she had lands both meadow and lea,
Where the sun shines fair on Carlisle wall,
For he swore her death, ere he would see
A Scottish knight the lord of all.

That wine she had not tasted well
(The sun shines fair on Carlisle wall)
When dead, in her true love's arms, she fell,
For Love was still the lord of all!

He pierced her brother to the heart,
Where the sun shines fair on Carlisle wall –
So perish all would true love part
That Love may still be lord of all!

And then he took the cross divine,
Where the sun shines fair on Carlisle wall,
And died for her sake in Palestine;
So Love was still the lord of all.

Now all ye lovers, that faithful prove,
(The sun shines fair on Carlisle wall)
Pray for their souls who died for love,
For Love shall still be lord of all!

Somehow a love song :) again from Loreena McKennitt

The Mummers' Dance :

When in the springtime of the year
When the trees are crowned with leaves
When the ash and oak, and the birch and yew
Are dressed in ribbons fair

When owls call the breathless moon
In the blue veil of the night
The shadows of the trees appear
Amidst the lantern light

We've been rambling all the night
And some time of this day
Now returning back again
we bring a garland gay

Who will go down to those shady groves
And summon the shadows there
And tie a ribbon on those sheltering arms
In the springtime of the year

The songs of birds seem to fill the wood
That when the fiddler plays
All their voices can be heard
Long past their woodland days

And so they linked their hands and danced
Round in circles and in rows
And so the journey of the night descends
When all the shades are gone

"A garland gay we bring you here
And at your door we stand
It is a sprout well budded out
The work of Our Lord's hand"

This is not exactly a love song, but I like to hear it:

And she'll tease you
She'll unease you
All the better just to please you
She's precocious and she knows
Just what it takes to make a pro blush
All the boys think she's a spy
She's got Bette Davis eyes

And here is more of the same:

Patricia Kaas - If you go away

If you go away
On this summer day
Then you might as well
Take the sun away
All the birds that flew
In the summer sky
When our love was new
And our hearts were high
When the day was young
And the night was long
And the moon stood still
For the night bird`s sang

But if you stay
I`ll make you a day
Like no day has been
Or will be again
We`ll sail the sun
We`ll ride on the rain
We`ll talk to the trees
We`ll worship the wind
And if you go
I`ll understand
Leave me just enough love
To hold in my hand

If you go away
As I`m the real must
There`ll be nothing left
In the world to trust
Just an empty room
Full of empty space
Like the empty look
I see on your face
I`ve been the shadow
Of your shadow
I feell you might have kept me
By your side

But if You stay
I`ll make you a day
Like no day has been
Or will be again
We`ll sail the sun
We`ll ride on the rain
We`ll talk to the trees
We`ll worship the wind
And if you go
I`ll understand,
Leave me just enough love
To hold in my hand

Actually there are many of the love songs I like.

This one is in French, but very beautiful!

Une vie d'amour

Une vie d'amour
Que l'on s'etait juree
Et que le temps a desarticulee,
Jours apres jour
Blesse mes pensees

Jour apres jour
Blesse mes pensees.

Tant de mots d'amour
Que nos cceurs ont cries,
De mots trembles
De larmes soulignees,
Dernier recours,
De joies desharmonisees

Une vie d'amour
Que l'on s'etait juree
Et que le temps a desarticulee,
Jour apres jour
Blesse mes pensees.

Tant de mots d'amour
Que nos cceurs ont cries,
De mots trembles
De larmes soulignees,
Dernier recours,
De joies desharmonisees

OVER THE HILLS AND FAR AWAY

They came for him one winter´s night.
Arrested, he was bound.
They said there´d been a robbery,
his pistol had been found.

They marched him to the station house,
he waited for the dawn.
And as they led him to the dock,
he knew that he´d been wronged.
"You stand accused of robbery",
he heared the bailiff say.
He knew without an alibi,
tomorrow´s light would mourn his freedom.

Over the hills and far away,
for ten long years he´ll count the days.
Over the mountains and the seas,
a prisoner´s life for him there´ll be.

He knew that it would cost him dear,
but did he dare not say,
where he had been that fateful night.
A secret it must stay.
He had to fight back tears of rage.
His heart beat like a drum.
For with the wife of his best friend
he spent his final night of freedom.

Over the hills and far away,
he swears he will return one day.
Far from the mountains and the seas,
back in her arms he swears he´ll be.

Each night within his prison cell
he looks out through the bars.
He reads the letters that she wrote.
One day he´ll know the taste of freedom.

(Nightwish)

John Lennon » Julia

(Lennon/McCartney)

Half of what I say is meaningless
But I say it just to reach you, Julia

Julia, Julia, oceanchild, calls me
So I sing a song of love, Julia
Julia, seashell eyes, windy smile, calls me
So I sing a song of love, Julia

Her hair of floating sky is shimmering, glimmering,
In the sun

Julia, Julia, morning moon, touch me
So I sing a song of love, Julia

When I cannot sing my heart
I can only speak my mind, Julia

Julia, sleeping sand, silent cloud, touch me
So I sing a song of love, Julia
Hum hum hum hum...calls me
So I sing a song of love for Julia, Julia, Julia

You should know, that "Julia" was the name of John Lennons mother.
That's why he called his son (with Cynthia) Julian.

What a most wonderful thread this is!

Here one of mine, quite an old song:

Diana

I'm so young and you're so old
This, my darling, I've been told
I don't care just what they say
'Cause forever I will pray
You and I will be as free
As the birds up in the trees
Oh, please stay by me, Diana

Thrills I get when you hold me close
Oh, my darling, you're the most
I love you but do you love me
Oh, Diana, can't you see
I love you with all my heart
And I hope we will never part
Oh, please stay by me, Diana

Oh, my darlin', oh, my lover
Tell me that there is no other
I love you with my heart
Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh don't you know I love you, love you so

Only you can take my heart
Only you can tear it apart
When you hold me in your loving arms
I can feel you giving all your charms
Hold me, darling, hold me tight
Squeeze me baby with-a all your might
Oh, please stay by me, Diana

Paul Anka
